The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has released the updated road work schedule for the Lynchburg District for the week of June 17-21. Various maintenance and construction activities will be taking place across the district, including bridge and guardrail maintenance, brush and tree cutting, pothole repairs, surface treatments, paving operations, mowing, drainage work, and roadside cleanup.
Amherst County
Route 29 & Route 151 (Patrick Henry Hwy.): Construction of a Restricted Crossing U-Turn, including storm drainage, advanced warning flashers, and traffic lighting. The Route 608 (Toytown Rd.) crossover is currently closed for Phase One of construction, with an expected reopening in July 2024. Exercise caution and be aware of traffic pattern changes during construction. Project completion is anticipated in November 2024.
Appomattox County
Route 131 (Old Courthouse Rd.) from Route 460 BUS (Confederate Blvd.) to Route 460 Bypass (Richmond Highway): Reconstruction project with a traffic shift in place and expected lane closures. Use caution.Project completion is targeted for January 2025.
Campbell County
Route 24 between Shady Tree Lane and Route 656 (Crews Shop Road): Bridge structure recoating work will require one lane to be closed. Drivers should be extra cautious in this area. The project is on track for a September 2024 completion.
Charlotte County
- Route 664 (Butterwood Rd.): Pipe replacement with a detour in place. Expected completion was June 14, 2024.
- Route 15 (Farmville Highway) at Route 15/360 BUS (Four Locust Highway): Roundabout project causing a change in traffic pattern, allowing two-way movement along Route 15/360 BUS and introducing a stop condition for southbound Route 15 traffic. On-ramps and off-ramps between Route 15 and Route 15/360 are closed. Detour signs and message boards will guide motorists. Project completion is expected in October 2024.
Cumberland County
Route 45 (Cartersville Rd.) at Route 690 (Columbia Rd.): Roundabout construction has reduced the speed limit to 35 mph through the work zone. Expect traffic pattern changes and lane closures. Project completion is currently anticipated for November 2024.
Halifax County
- Route 724 (Drybridge Road): Bridge repairs have temporarily closed Route 724 to through traffic, with reopening expected on July 19, weather permitting.
- Route 360 (James D. Hagood Highway) from Route 716 (Wolf Trap Rd.) to Route 344 (Scottsburg Rd.): Safety improvements including shoulder widening, rumble strip installation, and guardrail replacement. Lane closures are expected. Project completion is currently anticipated for November 2024.
- Route 501 (L P Bailey Memorial Highway) at Route 628 (Chestnut Road): Intersection improvement project with shoulder and lane closures. Temporary traffic signals will maintain one lane of traffic until late August 2024. Project completion is expected in December 2024.
- Route 645 (State Shed Rd.): Culvert repair work has closed Route 645, with a detour in place. Completion is expected by June 17, 2024.
Lynchburg
Route 501 (Campbell Avenue) Bridges over Route 29/460 (Richmond Highway): Bridge painting will cause nightly lane closures on Route 29/460 Eastbound and Westbound starting the week of June 24th from 7 pm to 6 am. Project completion is currently anticipated for mid-July 2024.
Nelson County
- Route 29, between Route 6 (River Rd.) and Route 718 (Mountain Cove Rd.): Shoulder widening and rumble strip installation will cause alternating lane closures. Project completion is expected by January 2025.
- Route 60 (Richmond Highway) over James River: Bridge deck replacement causing lane closures and traffic pattern changes. Traffic is currently using the opposite side of the bridge. Normal traffic conditions are expected to resume during the week of June 17-21, 2024. Completion is anticipated by July 2024.
Pittsylvania County
- Route 631 (Dews Rd.): Culvert repairs have closed Route 631 to through traffic from May 29 to approximately June 14, 2024.
- Route 656 (Kerns Church Rd.): Culvert repairs will close Route 656 from Route 712 (White Ridge Road) to the intersection of Route 713 (Rock Springs Road) from May 29 until June 30, 2024.
- Route 761 (Straightstone Rd.): Bridge replacement will close Route 761 from Route 604 (Glade Road) to the intersection of Route 604 from June 10 to approximately August 8, 2024.
Prince Edward County
Route 665 (Worsham Road): Bridge replacement has closed Route 665 to through traffic from Route 15 (Farmville Road) to Route 630 (Redd Shop Road). A detour with signs is in place, directing traffic via Route 15 to Route 628 (Granite Falls Blvd.) to Route 630 (Oak Ridge Road) back to Route 665. Completion was expected by June 11, 2024.
