On June 17, 2024, a small aircraft incident occurred on Albany Shaker Road near Colonie, New York. The accident involved a single-engine plane that experienced mechanical issues shortly after takeoff from Albany International Airport. The pilot attempted an emergency landing but crashed on the road near the library at 629 Albany Shaker Road.
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene. The pilot, who was the only person on board, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among motorists or pedestrians in the area at the time of the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the mechanical failure. The accident caused temporary road closures and traffic delays while authorities cleared the site and conducted their preliminary investigation.
