Marvel’s movies don’t always follow directly from their preceding series, but the latest trailer for Captain America: Brave New World strongly suggests that revisiting The Falcon and The Winter Soldier might be beneficial.
In this new chapter, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has fully stepped into the role of Captain America, a position solidified after years of supporting his predecessor. The trailer opens with a significant change: Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) has ascended to the presidency of the United States. Ross’s ambition to integrate Captain America into the government’s response to emerging threats raises questions and concerns for Sam.
The stakes intensify when Sam encounters Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), one of the original supersoldiers, seemingly under mind control, launching an attack on the president. This alarming event forces Sam into action, despite his initial reluctance.
While the trailer leaves much of the plot shrouded in mystery, it’s clear that Brave New World will delve into political intrigue reminiscent of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Additionally, it appears to build upon the world established in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, a logical progression since this is Marvel’s first film featuring Wilson as the lead Captain America. However, this approach may demand a lot from the audience when Captain America: Brave New World premieres on January 14, 2025.
