It’s Primary Election Day across New Jersey, and in Brick Township, voters are heading to the polls to nominate county and federal candidates for the November general election. This year, while there are no council seats up for election in Brick, there are significant races at the county and federal levels with contested primaries.
Brick Primary Election 2024: Election Day Essentials
On Tuesday, June 4, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., polls across New Jersey will be open for the primary election. Before you vote, ensure you’re registered and check your polling location. Voters can also drop off mail-in ballots at designated Ocean County dropboxes and track their mail-in ballots online.
June 4 is also the deadline for independent candidates to file petitions to run for office in the general election. New Jersey’s open primaries allow unaffiliated voters to participate as long as they are registered to vote.
Candidates on the Ballot
Ocean County Commissioner
Two seats are up for grabs in the Ocean County Commissioner race. On the Republican side, the candidates are Jennifer Bacchione, a member of the Ocean County Board of Health and the wife of Berkeley Township Mayor John Bacchione, and Robert Arace, the Mayor of Manchester. The Democratic candidates include two slates: Kenneth Seda and Karen Sugden, endorsed by the county’s Democratic club, and Regina C. Discenza and Joseph Lamb, who are challenging for the nomination.
Presidential Election
For the presidential primary, while Donald Trump and Joe Biden are the presumptive nominees for the Republican and Democratic parties, respectively, there are other choices on the Democratic ballot. These include anti-abortion activist Terrisa Bukovinac and an “Uncommitted” option, representing a pro-Palestine protest vote.
U.S. Senate
The Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Bob Menendez features four candidates: Justin Murphy, Curtis Bashaw, Albert Harshaw, and Christine Serrano Glassner. On the Democratic side, Andy Kim, Patricia Campos-Medina, and Lawrence Hamm are vying for the nomination.
House of Representatives
In the 4th Congressional District, the Republican incumbent Chris Smith faces a primary challenge from David Schmidt, while Matthew Jenkins is seeking the Democratic nomination.
